Thumbnail sketches and alternate concepts for my illustration for The Markup about LA’s use of a racially-biased algorithm to assign housing assistance.
At this stage, I often try to include a wide shot, a full/medium shot, and a close up to ensure I’m covering a wider range of possible compositions!

Cover and internal illustrations for Britannica Magazine!
The brief was to create a vibrant dinosaur coming to life from a fossil, and an Antarctic scene.
I chose Baryonyx as it’s one of the more teethy British Isle discoveries, and also mega fun to draw. vectorthatfox.co.uk
I think it is also important to show process!
This is probably my favorite illu with DotDash; and one that was an easy self insert for easy reasons. I gave two examples that to me best showed this heavy of a topic. The bottom right showing what it feels like when all you are trying to do is grow, but external forces continue to cut and take away your process. And the other just being the overwhelming feeling of the never ending storm.
The editor I worked with a lot made a great call on picking the "never ending storm at sea". I even left a nice easter egg; text HOME to 741741. (The Crisis Text Line) (At the time, a resource for what this category could fit.)
Doing this brief made me realize that I need to sometime in the future do more metal health illustrations, blogs, articles, whichever! If it meant that I could do more cool illustrations like these. It was therapeutic for me to do. And I cannot wait for more assignments like this one.
The Guardian Weekend: Three life-changing conversations (2020)
3 new illustrations in The Guardian’s Guardian Weekend. Illustrating the 3 winning stories from the newspaper’s essay competition for young black writers aged 16-21. So thankful as these were all amazing stories to read and draw on.
Amna Mukhtar was chosen for first place by the judges, for their piece about their Muslim faith and sexuality. Zakiyyah Deen ‘s story was on her alopecia journey, and in Olivia McDonald’s story, a mother opens herself up to her children. Out in this weekend’s The Guardian Weekend, as part of their conversations special, co-edited by Gal-Dem magazine.
