The early Greek mythologysts transformed a world full of fear into a world full of beauty.

In an old post in this blog there was a reference on Edith Hamilton's writing on ancient Greek symbolism. She was not entirely wrong but not entirely correct either (my opinion is based on research papers and museum findings, and the knowledge of Greek friends in archaeology, history and philology sector.)

I would say, read the book. Chances are, you will know more than you knew before. At the same time keep in mind that each researcher has their own biases and Anglophone researchers have their own and on top of that - which are ignoring Greek expert insight and knowledge on cultural things ancient old and new.

I would also suggest to read more books on the matter after this book. One book can never give you the full picture. Humans are faulty and biased, therefore research demands reading multiple sources, not just one.

In the reply to that question there is also a free digital Library on Google Drive, containing great books on the matter, many written by Greeks. All in English. I've checked a few so far and they are quite accurate. Here's the link, for ease.
