Springtime is usually when wildflowers bloom. But this summer, we’re getting our own prismatic, vibrant showing from Ed MacFarlane, Edd Gibson, and Jack Savage, better known as English dance punk and indietronica dignitaries Friendly Fires. On August 16th, Friendly Fires will release their new album Infloresecent on Casablanca / Polydor. As such, we’ve already been privy to a bevy of polychromatic songs from the trio. Run The Wild Flowers is their latest new song, as premiered via Apple Music’s Beats 1 as Zane Lowe’s “World First”. This one’s more of a sprawling electronic opus versus their usual frisky strutting numbers. Deep resonating beats and a hypnotic sleekness bind the euphoric, club-fueled track in a manner that echoes exhilarating, mesmeric hits from the likes of Elderbrook, Bob Moses, and Rüfüs Du Sol, but with the equatorial vitality and lushness that we’re much accustomed to from Friendly Fires. We’re ecstatic that Friendly Fires is truly, officially back now that the English indie rock and dance-punk legends have announced their long awaited third album Inflorescent, to be released August 16th via Casablanca / Polydor. Of course, I’ve already pre-ordered the record. AND I’ve purchased my ticket for a sure to be festive tour stop in San Francisco at the Fillmore on September 26th. Let’s all shake and shimmy together to the latest vibrantly multi-colored song revealed off of Inflorescent, a euphoric stream of paradise named Silhouettes. It’s a glittery, glamorous, disco succulent jam. Debuted as Annie Mac's 'Hottest Record', the track was recorded in producer James Ford's attic studio and features co-production from Ford and Mark Ralph. With a nod towards the Brazilian disco records the band have always loved, it’s another anthem-in-the-making and a tantalizing pointer towards the sound of Inflorescent. Inflorescent arrives eight years after Friendly Fires’ last album. It’s been a long wait, but Ed Macfarlane, Edd Gibson, and Jack Savidge has not lost their hold on us, not one bit. We’ve waited an eternity for Friendly Fires to release new music, so we were elated when the English outfit returned half a year ago with their first new song since 2011 album Pala. The Ed Macfarlane lead troupe did not disappoint with Love Like Waves either, bringing back their unmistakable mix of tropical funk and indie dance rock with the shimmying confection. For their second new song of 2018, Friendly Fires surprises us by linking up with Disclosure on Heaven Let Me In. The UK duo co-produced the track, which was written in one late night session at their North London studio. Heaven Let Me In, which launched in the UK as Annie Mac’s “hottest record in the world”, is a disco funky whirlwind of slick vocals and vivacious strutting beats. Macfarlane says: "'Heaven Let Me In' is a song about being comfortable in your own skin. When you stop trying so hard and embrace your imperfections then opportunities arise and doors open." Heaven Let Me In is a luscious and summery tease off Friendly Fires’ long awaited third album, set for release in 2019. Hopefully, this means they’ll be touring expansively next year too, because it’s been way too long since we’ve shaken our rumps alongside Macfarlane to Friendly Fires’ flashy jams.
