Liquid Liquid - Slip In and Out of Phenomenon (2008)
Unusual and incredibly groovy. Liquid Liquid were amongst the early New York dance-punk groups emerging in the late 70s/early 80s. I first heard of them through mentions by James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem, of which the influence can be very clearly heard. This release is a compilation from the Domino label of the band's first three EPs; Liquid Liquid (1981), Successive Reflexes (1981), and Optimo (1983), as well as a CD of earlier recordings under their previous name Liquid Idiot. Each of the EPs include an extra track or two from the time period. I'd been on the lookout for this set for quite a while. I saw a local shop got one in secondhand, and I pretty much dropped everything and headed over when I could. I'd recommend starting with Optimo, it's generally the more popular of the three, and includes the often-sampled Cavern. A few individual favourites would be "Bellhead", and the pair of "Lock Groove" songs.
