I Don’t Want to Live My Dream Based on Other People’s Standard
The title above is the motto in my graduating paper. It is my own motto, so there is my name under it —as if the name of the famous person put under a famous motto^^. That motto really can represent what I have in mind about my idealism, my dream, and my life.
I graduate just now; from December 30 I am no longer a university student. I am a bit sad about that because the title of student give so many benefits in life. We can shop in a discount price, we can get the meal with the student price, and when we do a mistake, people can easily forgive it because we are still students. My fear is not only because I loose my privilege as student, but also what I must do after I graduate from this great university.
The biggest fear for me and I believe other graduates also have this kind of fear is we afraid that we will regret our choice. I personally think that if I work in a company which I do not have a passion to work there--although the salary is big-- I think I cannot reach my level of happiness. On the other hand, if I work with full passion of things which unfortunately cannot give me much money, I think I will be much happier than those who have much money but not happy with their job.
I must say that what is good for other people may not be good for us. Hence, We must follow our own dream as long as it is for good purposes. Of course there will be some rejection from family, friends, or even the lecturers. However, if you think what you do is right and you can prove that you are happy with it, then just go for it!!! Always remember that the rejection, the humiliation, the uncomfortable situation, the sweat, the tears, and the blood of our suffering are helping us to grow. If we only know the good things, the pretty things, the sweet words, the comfortable life, we eventually will grow into a baby. Well, it is true that after graduation, we jump to the jungle. It is not the jungle itself which is scary, but the choices that we make are the scary ones. The choices will define our future, whether it is good or bad, but since life is the accumulation of small choices, better to be prepared if we make wrong choices and learn how to deal with it.
Like what I wrote in the title above, I will not live my dream based on other people’s standard because we have a choice for everything. If for some people, working there is good, it may not be good for me because we are different people with different background and different set of mind. I prefer to work in a place where I have full passion in it. Although my salary would be small, and in the future I may have small house with small car, but my life will be full and happy. People should live their live to the fullest, don’t they? Therefore, we can make a choice and we can decide our future. Moreover, by taking the decision by yourself, you will be more independent. You will not blame anyone for unhappiness that you have in the future and it stimulates you to think “ What should I do to make my life happier?”
My talks above are particularly for those who already have a set of dream in their mind, but how about the people who do not have any idea about what they should do after graduation. No worries my friend! Luckily we have ECC UGM. Huzzah! It is like the heaven for us who want to get a job based on skills, talent and desire. As the career center, ECC UGM tries to provide the best tools for all the graduates to get the most suitable job for them. With the regular job fair, scholarship fair, and job training held by ECC UGM, you can take the first step for your future career or education.
All in all, whatever the choices of live that we make for our present and future life, let us promise to do our best and love what we are doing. Doing a job is not always about salary, money, and comfort; it is about passion, dedication, and whether we can give contribution either for our development or other people’s development.
