Aescher-Wildkirchli Mountain Hut below Ebenalp in Appenzell, Switzerland

May 26th 2018: A beautiful hike through the green spring landscape of Appenzell, one of Switzerland’s most unique regions thanks to its sharp peaks, tall cliffs, and pristine alpine lakes. This time we took the cable car up to Ebenalp, from where hiked down through the caves of Wildkirchli to the famous mountain hut Aescher-Wildkirchli, which is uniquely situated right next to a giant cliff. From there we continued further down towards the lake Seealpsee, where we honestly just enjoyed the beautiful day instead of continuing hiking further. But we still did a loop around the lake in order to see it from all sides, so we did not miss out on seeing the local goats and cows before heading down back to the car to go home.

2013: Gasthaus Aescher-Wildkirchli - would’ve been a gross disservice to the earth sciences to not have stopped here for a quiet one with that view of a fold belt.
