First thing to know about them is that Marcus hates the holidays while Oliver loves them.
Oliver tries to get Marcus excited about the lights, the food, the happy people, the presents, but Marcus just doesn’t care. He tries to, for Oliver, but it doesn’t come naturally.
They compromise, though, so they spend Christmas with Oliver’s family and do all the traditional stuff, from decorating the tree and baking cookies to exchanging gifts (Marcus never knows what to get Oliver, this year it was a box of Muggle sports movies)
But then the rest of the holiday season they travel somewhere just the two of them and that’s usually Oliver’s gift to Marcus. This year they’ll be heading to Norway to watch the northern lights. Marcus loves spending New Year’s in a different place every time, surrounded by people they don’t know but always with Oliver next to him. And as much as Oliver says he loves the nostalgia of a traditional holiday season at home with friends and family, he has come to really treasure this new tradition of the two of them and couldn’t ask for a better way to end the year.
