Regional German Food: Haddekuche
Haddekuche is a traditional pastry made in Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Central Germany. It‘s a diamond-shaped type of gingerbread. The word is Hessian dialect for „harter Kuchen“ („hard cake"), due to the fact that it dries out relatively quickly to become very crunchy. It‘s sometimes still offered in Frankfurt by pretzel vendors who roam the Apfelwein bars in the city, but this seems to be a dying tradition.
