I finally got to see The Furious in theaters.
And yeah, what can I say? Everyone’s right. The story is thin and realism is basically not a thing here.
I mean, when someone gets hit by a car pretty hard and then just gets back up like nothing happened… come on.
But honestly, who cares. That’s not what this film is about.
The setup is simple. A father is looking for his kidnapped daughter and fights his way through a human trafficking ring. Along the way, he meets another man who also has his own reasons to be there. That’s pretty much all the plot this film needs.
The Furious is a pure action and martial arts film. And as exactly that, it works damn well.
I really loved it. I’m going to watch it a second time in theaters.
The choreography is just strong. Fast, brutal, creative, and still filmed in a way where you can actually understand what’s happening. That sounds simple, but a lot of modern action films don’t even manage that. They just cut and shake the camera until nobody knows who kicked who into what.
I have to say, I really like Asian cinema. I’ve always enjoyed old Easterns and martial arts films. But The Furious doesn’t feel old-fashioned. It feels modern, direct, and really well staged.
If you like action, martial arts, or just damn good choreography, watch this in theaters. Seriously.
If I had to complain, it would only be that there is so much non-stop madness thrown at you that near the end I actually thought
Okay, maybe calm down for half a second?
No joke.
But that’s complaining on a very high level. Honestly, this might become my favorite action film in a long time.
And one quick note for people who are a bit sensitive Yes, the film is brutal. But for me, it still stays within limits. When a hammer comes into play, for example, the camera doesn’t always fully show it. It’s rough, sure. But if you watch horror anyway, this is pretty familiar territory.
Don’t go for the plot.
Go for the action.
And the action really delivers.
