brought to you by me listening to this shit all day at the front desk.
-- Cheer Up (It's Christmas) -- What if... I don't want to? What if... I have depression that gets *worse* this time of year? What if I don't buy into the notion that this is the "happiest time of year" -- because, seriously, dudes. Just because people buy into the notion that we're happy, doesn't mean that we're happy. Being peer pressured into putting out lights and decorations and trees that end up costing electric bills and hours of effort... that doesn't make me happy. Sitting on a stranger's lap who smells funny and says "Ho" a lot... that doesn't make me happy.
-- Christmas in America -- This fucked up mess of blind patriotism and holiday spirit is an oldie, but not one to be left off this list. There's a throwaway line about peace on earth, but the rest of the song is so dripping with white, Christian, privilege it makes me sick. You know, for a time when we all step it up and give to the needy, this song shows a serious lack of knowledge or consideration for those less fortunate.
And that's all I have for now (these two tracks have been the most grievous offenders the past few days) other than EVERY FUCKING SONG ABOUT JESUS PLAYED ON A PUBLIC RADIO STATION AND ASSAILING MY EARS. Please feel free to reblog with your own.
