Second Stage Surgery for Microtia Correction This teenager had been born with a microtia deformity of her right ear. Microtia is the congenital deformity of the external ear. Surgery is performed in two stages. She had already undergone the first stage at our hospital and presents now for the second stage. We have a performed a huge series of microtia correction in our hospital. A template was first created in the first stage of surgery using the normal left ear. Costal rib graft was then harvested with intact perichondrium. This was then crafted using the template to create a graft that was symmetrical to the normal ear. The cartilaginous graft was then placed in a subcutaneous pocket created at the site of the deformed ear. A costal cartilage was also banked in the subcostal region during the first procedure. Second stage entailed harvesting a full thickness skin graft from the inguinal region. An incision was then made around the cartilaginous graft structure that had been placed in the subcutaneous pocket. This was then lifted up and the banked graft was placed in the pericranium to elevate the pinna. The skin graft was then sutured in the postauricular region. This resulted in bilaterally symmetrical ears and she was very happy with the results of the surgery. 📞 Phone: +91 44 4294 7222 📬 Email: [email protected] 🌍 Website: www.smbalaji.com 📍 Location: Chennai, India #microtia #earsurgery #earreconstruction #eardeformity #congenitaldeformity #cosmeticear #cosmeticsurgery #drsmbalaji #smbalaji #balajidental #maxillofacialsurgeon #maxillofacialsurgery #india #chennai #tamilnadu (at Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCvmcS9nN1g/?igshid=1w4iaf8mm4grh
