Reconstruction of upper jaw with Rib Graft
This young man had been involved in a horrific multivehicle road accident a few years ago. He had suffered multiple facial fractures including frontal, orbital, maxillary and mandibular fractures. All his fractures had been operated in a local hospital in his hometown, but he was not satisfied with the results.
He had been left with severe facial disfigurement following the surgery and had become depressed due to this. His family had conducted extensive internet research for the best facial reconstruction hospital in India. They had finally been referred to our hospital for management.
He first underwent maxillary reconstruction with the use of bone grafts harvested at the time of surgery. The surgery was successfully performed with complete reconstruction of his maxillary bone. There was establishment of good symmetry with the contralateral maxilla following the surgery. He will undergo dental implant surgery following consolidation of the graft with surrounding bone.
He was very happy and relieved with the results of the surgery. They were instructed to return in a few months for dental implants and expressed understanding of the same.
