'The Batman' Round Table interview with producer Dylan Clark
Talk about ticking things of my bucket list for 2022 at this rate I'll have to add more.
With the releases of The Batman in cinemas on 4th March I was lucky enough to interview Dylan Clark, the Producer of ‘The Batman’, along with director Matt Reeves.
For me this was the first ever round table interview for something like this and I was nervous as hell but having a few DC fans that I know on there made it comfitable thank you The Aspiring Kryptonion, DC World & The DCTV Shows, but what a great experience and I think I got the buzz for it.

Me: What was your first reaction when you saw Pattinson in the Batsuit.
Dylan: One of them great moment’s, I've been doing this a very long time, and this is my first Batman movie, You have to bring the actor in to see how he looks in a cowl. But you haven't made a cowl yet for him. We brought him to the Warner Brothers lot to the costume department where the security guards brought out all these different bat suits of all the legendary Batman movies.
Rob had to try on ones that would fit and just sitting there in the changing room, watching him come out with different Cowls. Matt and I were like at one point Rob is very English. But when he put on that suit, he became this other creature and he also he started behaving differently. And then all of a sudden he would turn to us and talk like Rob Pattinson, he'd snapped in out of it.
So it was very clear from the get go. He's blessed with a very nice chin. He's also very handsome. So he putting on the cowl was perfect. It was just one of those days I'll never forget.
Me: I wanted to ask regarding the visuals, working with Greg Fraser. the lighting is just stunning. What was process like getting that put together?
Dylan: Well, you know, Matt and Greg have worked together before, and they are precision seekers. Greg is just a brilliant photographer. I mean, he just understands lighting and camera, you know, he build his own cameras. He's just an incredible partner to Matt and his whole team, they came again wanting to ground something in a specific way that hadn't been seen before. And with our production designer, James Chillin, we wanted to build a tactile Gotham, something that felt that you could touch and Greg could shoot. So it felt real with visual effects in the background to enhance things.
As you know, we shot in Liverpool. We shot in central London. We he was shot in Chicago, and there was that thing that Greg and team did to design the lighting just to make that transition from, real concrete buildings to visual effects to back city and extensions. he made that was just seamless. It's just an incredible look. I can't believe the way the movie looks. They're just the best.
Me: Did you go on set most of the time? with everything that was going on with Covid.
Dylan: I was there every day. What do you mean? What kind of producer do you think I am?
It was challenging. Yeah, it was. It was a much more arduous process. Typically, you know, we sit together, we talk along during the day about everything if there's any kind of creative problem to deal with, like you just have to be ready for that. And some of the best moments about making a movie would be sitting here with your partner the director and the DP, trying to figure out why this one shot doesn't work. The cowl was sometimes very hard to light and get it into Rob's eyes. But with covid happening, we had to be separate and be on headsets, and it just was it was a little bit isolating and lonely.
The creative process is so great because you're with all of these really smart people that love what they're doing. There isn't a problem that you can't solve together, it took while to figure out our rhythms but we had a great UK crew and Toby Heffernan working our new system out to figure out the time we needed and perfect that, I was there every day.
Me: Thank you so much the movie is fantastic and I can't wait for the world to see it.
Massive thank you to Warner Brothers UK for this amazing opportunity.
