Niche as fuck and I can guarantee that pretty much nobody is going to get this, but Pat Harkin’s story about filling his top hat with ducks to bring them to a Discworld convention is the most Hazbin Hotel Lucifer coded thing ever.
Elf Costume - bit of money
Adjusting Elf costume cos it was a bit big - bout 2 h
Walking round DWCon as a unicorn stud farmer, offering small bottles of white fluid and a kids syringe to people to "do it yourself" if they couldn't afford the 3000 gold pieces for a covering - priceless
Venting
Can't believe the Discworld Convention is happening right now - the first one in four years! - and I'm not there because I couldn't get a passport in time... It's especially frustrating because it's not only The DW Con, it's especially significant for me, it's the place where I met my boyfriend and where we got together two years later... and now he's there on his own (he didn't want to go without me but I couldn't deprive him of it!) and I'm here at home binging on Netflix.
Bloody Brexit.
I went to Con
Such fun. So little sleep.
Things wot I learned...
1. Tech are BEST. They provide icecream for hard workers during the main room set-up.
2. Tech are BEST. Especially that one guy who wasn't phased by the complicated lighting of maskerade act and sat there with his finger on the "Bright Light" button to get EVERY flash right.
3. Tech are BEST. After explanations are given, Tech are understanding that if one's Maskerade act is 90 secs of pure cardio, one needs to lie on the floor for a bit before running it again.
4. After Tech, Ops are best. Always there for receiving encouraging hugs and groping the chap-less ass.
5. On the subject of the chaps, hop/jogging around like Danny out of Hot Fuzz at the fete is the MOST fun way to travel around when in cowboy gear.
6. People are willing to form a polite queue in the bar to touch the abs. People are so polite!
7. One cannot live on chips and pints of coke alone... but throw in some rum and it's a pretty sweet life.
8. Not everyone knows to stand up for the hymns at Church of Om (Holy Horns).
9. Planking for quoits is forbidden.
10. Begging at the Gala Dinner drinks reception is surprisingly productive. Tuppence, a chocolate liquorice coin, and a glass of bubbles. Sweet!
11. I have a lot of THOUGHTS about The Books. Enough for hours of intense literature discussion in the bar. Twice.
12. Sunrise is pretty.

Staying up on the last night of DW-Con is Tradition (traditioooon). It's always something special, that small band of folks, hanging on by fingernails, fighting a rearguard action against sleep deprivation, but this morning it was beautiful. A gift of a sunrise.
Goodnight and Goodbye to the Discworld indeed.
As I mentioned earlier, me as Sybil Ramkin - same costume I wore for my last Discworld event but slightly improved thanks to the wonderful people in Chaos Costuming (a room full of fabrics and donated garments and sewing implements for last-minute cosplayers). Spent some time dribbling coffee and tea all over my apron to make it more damaged, and got my face sooted up by the resident facepainter :)
Fanarting live from the International Discworld convention in Warwick (I'm dressed as Sybil Ramkin as I write this and having a great time). Rincewind, and the squad from Monstrous Regiment. Jackrum didn't fit on the group picture so he gets his own page!
