More of a craft than an art, but here’s a little hive I made out of toilet roll tubes for my tiny IKEA bee plushies.

A vision in black and gold dwelling in a hole

So round and regular you might think the earth had been stabbed with a pencil

She is a goddess of dirt and darkness and sweet things.

A martyr, a mother, an architect.

I worship mostly with my eyes, gazing down the tiny hole

Or sometimes with my hands

And a twig barely an inch long

Preventing the displaced earth from falling back into place

Of course, one day I will go to look and see only a mound of dirt,

The burrow now both nursery and tomb.

I will continue to watch over regardless.

She will have been like a goddess to me
