It genuinely makes me feel like a lonely and forlorn horse how very very very few modern fantasy depictions of dwarf women include facial hair its just so frustrating and lame
On Dwarf Tattoos (A new developing head canon)
So, Tolkien Dwarves we know are a secretive race. Which prompted me to consider the idea that maybe they use ink which is only discernible by other Dwarves.
Other races cannot see Dwarven tattoos, unless that specific Dwarf wants someone to. It's as much a privacy measure while out in the world amongst the Big People, and I guess Hobbits, as much as an intimacy thing. (Or lack thereof.) Like some Dwarves never trusting those outside of their own enough to allow anyone but another Dwarf to know them well, etc.
Because Dwarven tattoos are a part of them, of their culture, of their own life's story. There are layers.
Also; for the Dwarven Ones soulmate enjoyers - some or all tattoos, if the Dwarf's One is another Dwarf, could still be hidden unless they're Ones. Which allows them to see everything, versus just some of them.
Still something I'm noodling with, but I'll likely incorporate it into my writing, some day.
Case in point for my controversial take, draw Dis like a fucking Dwarf. Hairy, bulky, strong, and most of all a beautiful woman because SHES A FEMALE DWARF RAHHHHHHH

Im not saying i want a bad ass moment interrupt by a moth to the face but that would be incredible.
Thats what the helmets are for, arent they? Deterring moths. Not to look cool and art deco. Its to deter moths. Ive connected the dots.(kidding obvs)
