I want to read all of the nice headcanons you have!

I'll start with one of my favourites: Dwalin and Fíli. I think they've known each other for most of Fíli's life and Dwalin is like an uncle for Fíli and much softer with him then e.g. Thorin, who raises him to be his heir. So, Fíli often goes to Dwalin to talk about self-doubt and for advice. Also, Dwalin has a very soft heart and is really good at talking about emotions etc.

Khazad November Day 4: Balin!

@brujahinaskirt brought up an interesting point about bilbo’s tendency to be attracted to non sustenance plants, a trait that becomes relatively distinct in queer lodgings, ex: ”[bilbo] looked at the flowers in the garden, wondering what their names could be” & etc. as is recalled in lotr, “[hamfast] had tended the garden at bag end for forty years, and had helped old holman in the same job before that.” so i don’t think bilbo is overfond of gardening, and i don’t know if i could even consider it a hobby. the only mention of bilbo taking a personal interest in sustenance crops is in fotr, constantly [consulted hamfast] upon the growing of vegetables - in the matter of ‘roots’, especially potatoes.” that doesn’t suggest he’s good at it.
