So I’ve been watching a cold case show and it’s HILARIOUS how little the cops got done in the first two episodes.
In the first, they ruled out two major suspects because of the airtight alibi of “they were in jail that night.” It took them over ten years to realize “oh, wait, those guys weren’t in jail that night, they were bailed out shortly after being booked” and only because they’re found a third accomplice who would have needed their help to do it and confessed. Never even DNA tested the duo until then, despite testing, by the officers’ own admission, over a hundred other potential suspects including every male in the victim’s family to compare to found semen. What do ya know, it was a match. Nobody actually checked to make sure they’d stayed in jail, the person who booked them just assumed they had.
In the second one, it wasn’t the cops who broke the case. A witness who’d been threatened and intimidated by the killers for years finally came forward (was also the first witness to notice both killers, most only saw one in the car). And their previous tip before that had been a guy who’d bragged he’d killed the elderly couple to get back at his ex, who was their granddaughter (spoiler: he didn’t, and the sting they set up to get him to confess was laughable). The other thing that helped? Advancing technology allowing them to blow up some pictures in color (the crime was from the 80s in a small town). Like, you have this horrendous crime that shakes this small town...and these cops just had nothing even with all the evidence.
And the thing is, the show is like many of these shows, still portraying the cops ans sympathetic and all, but it just cannot cover up how they weren’t even the ones to crack this.
