There are at least 3 methods to preserve dead insects: dry mount, wet preservation and resin.

Dry mount involves posing the insect before letting it dry. The dried specimen will maintain its pose, and look as if it is alive.

Wet preservation is where you keep the dead insects in preservative solution such as alcohol. This is good for soft-bodied insects.

You can also cast resin over the dead insect to preserve a dry mounted specimen.
