i feel like the reason ppl don’t like the autistic izaya hc is because they can’t handle the idea of autistic people being anything other than a dumb baby. its rlly disappointing to me as an autistic person that so much of fandom culture infantilizes autistic people to a creepy degree :///

As someone in the process of getting a diagnosis, it's weird to see how many biases exist about the whole spectrum of mental illnesses! Autism is one that speaks near and dear to my heart though, so it really sucks to hear mention of someone trying to "disprove" it in a fandom space. It's just a shitty thing to do in general, and I totally get that Izaya in particular falls under the umbrella of #so-relatable in regards to many possible mental illnesses!

I agree; in canon, Izaya is definitely way more obsessed with Shizuo than the other way around, which is super depressing and makes me really pity Izaya

It highlights their personalities, like… Shizuo is just trying to be normal and go about his everyday life. And the reason he hates Izaya is entirely justified (hurts his friends, screws with Shizuo’s life). And he was isolated but is forming relationships throughout the novels and ❤️❤️❤️

But Izaya’s hatred isn’t like that…… He isolated himself to not get hurt, accepted all of humanity to not be hurt. And his hatred for Shizuo isn’t something that I personally feel is as justified as Shizuo’s reason…..

hmmm. well, considering novel 13 and the sunset novel, i do think their relationship will change and it won’t be the same destructive violence (as in shizuo won’t throw everything possible at izaya) but i don’t think it’ll be peaceful. i think it’ll be tense and though shizuo might be able to stand being in the same room as izaya, he’d still much rather not be. and for izaya, i feel like there’s still going to be a loathing towards shizuo… but a different loathing than before? like, before it was loathing but he saw himself as shizuo’s equal. from the sounds of sunset, it seems like he feels shizuo’s “ahead” of him, so he still dislikes him but it’s a different kind of it…

but yeah i think it can be quieter but not peaceful. i think a peaceful relationship would require them to let go and move on, maybe forgive too, none of which i can see either of them, especially izaya, doing… although maybe izaya has? it seems he’s severed most of his connections/relationships/etc to ikebukuro, so maybe that’s him moving on

but if that’s the case, he’d never go back there and never meet shizuo again

i think there’s definitely going to be a change in the way shizuo and izaya’s relationship is portrayed. based on spoilers, izaya’s more or less accepted (if that’s the right word) that shizuo’s moved on. he sees himself as the loser of their fight and the conflict actually scared him and i think fear is something we’ve seen very little, if ever, from izaya

i don’t know very much about the “new” izaya as people talk about. he might be less reckless and more withdrawn, but aside from that, i don’t know how else his personality has changed. and considering he’s in the wheelchair and currently isn’t seeking a doctor’s help to be able to get out of it, there’s a certain air of having given up to him (though i have seen it said that narita’s usually pretty clear cut about things and we’ll get a definite answer if izaya’s going to seek physical therapy or not)

aw thank you for checking! i’m actually not sure, i’m sorry! i’m not really knowledgable on mikado related stuff… there was kind of a moment in… 8? i think? the first two moments that i’ve read that come to mind are the stabbing aoba’s hand and setting that adabashi on fire, but i’m not sure which volumes they’re in
