is it okay to use fcs that are not autistic to write an autistic character or someone in the spectrum? is it okay to make a character hard of hearing or deaf if the fc isn't?

In response to the questions about representation, one thing I’ve always wondered is: can you use trans fcs to play characters that aren’t explicitly trans?

HoH person here, I think the distinction with d/Deaf/HoH faceclaims lies in culture— of you’re writing a character who is Deaf cultured, it would be most appropriate to use a Deaf cultured faceclaim but if you’re writing someone who is deaf/HoH but not part of Deaf culture then any faceclaim would be appropriate. Obviously I don’t speak for everyone but that’s what I’ve heard around?

Where should I look for specific cultural resources? Everyone talks about how important it is not to whitewash a backstory, which I completely agree with, but so many resources just googling seem dubious at best as to how authentic or specific they are.
