There was a quiet knock on the door, one not often heard anymore. Legs had been out for a while, not come home after hunting. He didn't know how long it had been, but he was back now, arms ladened in gifts and wood and bottles.

There was the sound of fumbling around in the house, like someone nearly tripping over something left on the floor. There was silence for a moment before the door creaked open.

“Ah, Stars- Sorry, I’ve not been expecting anyone-“ They stopped short on seeing who was at the door.

Attached to the note is a clipping from a newspaper titled "2000 PEOPLE DIED IN A MYSTERIOUS ACCIDENT. VICTIMS SEEM TO BE DRAINED OF ALL BLOOD".

Water’s hand shook as they read the news clipping, before clenching and ripping it in half.

“That’s not like him. Either of him. Even Soldier wouldn’t kill that many innocents—they’d have to give him a reason. And this…. Stars, if this was him, please tell me it was Soldier…”

Water burned the note as soon as they got it. The wrapping paper too. They’re tired of this.

They take the rifle apart, in fact finding the gun to be unloaded as promised.

They burn the wooden parts, taking the metal scraps away to bury near the boarder. The bayonet is detached from the gun and laid aside. It’s too big to hide well, so they bend it too out of shape to be used, stuffing it into the hollow of one of the few trees remaining in the forest.

And I think? It worked? I'm not sure

Water slips the note into their pocket, and starts to wander the town, calling for the anon.
