Dropbear (2025)
The Daily Dæme is…
003 - Dropscær
She enjoys pranks, the outdoors, and nighttime walks.
Features: Cryptid, Pestilence, Stealth
Quirk: Mischief
The Dæmomancer: Don't bother knocking her out if she latches onto you. Those claws lock in and only release if she lets go or if they're prized off by force. Best to keep your eyes cast upward.
Prof. Lyrica: Terrifying. A person-sized clawed monster, nearly invisible in low light, dropping onto you from above and latching on to maul you to death? No wonder so many are feral.
Warden Parks: Their meat and blood are pitch black and poisonous from the toxins in the meat and eucalyptus they eat. As such, bite attacks are not recommended.
Sy Fife: This is why you stay on your toes, tourists. She's pure stealth, and loves to put a scare, and some scars, in ya. If she doesn't get the drop on you, she'll probably run off. Probably.
Dr. Entendre: That’s just a big (1.4 m, 70kg) koala. Until someone can actually capture a Dropscær and get some solid evidence, I'm just going to assume it is the urban legend it very obviously is.
For as little as $1 you can support Dæme-On and other projects, and get access to new Dæmes a week in advance, on my patreon here.
Other ways of supporting me and my works.
There are three authors I am so excited for 2025 book releases. They are Ocean Vuong, R F Kuang, and Evelyn Araluen.
Many of my favourite authors are unfortunately dead so I don't often get to experience this excitement (I hope to more in future, as I want to expand the range of literature I consume).
Their ages being 36, 28, and 29 respectively, it is incredible to see these younger writers paving the way for literature before our very eyes.
Ocean Vuong
On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous was so absolutely life changing. Although his poetry that I've read (Night Sky With Exit Wounds and Time Is A Mother) included hit or miss poetry for my personal taste, I have complete faith in his upcoming novel, The Emperor of Gladness, coming out in May.
R F Kuang
The only book of hers that I have read is Babel, which I completed only a month ago. It was absolutely jaw dropping. By far one of the best novels I have ever read. Only today I began reading The Poppy War and the first 60 pages have me hooked.
I'm really anticipating her new novel coming out August 2025, titled Katabasis. Katabasis meaning descent to the underworld. Kuang has expressed that this novel has been the most emotionally difficult to write which is crazy to me (Babel destroyed me).
Evelyn Araluen
The most underrated author on this list. She is an Australian Indigenous author. I was so captivated by her debut poetry collection, Dropbear. She has a new collection of poetry coming out in September is titled The Rot. I am so unbelievably excited.

His miracles were a backdrop, a visual aid, to his urgent message. That message was: Sin will kill you, hell is real, God is merciful, his kingdom will change you, I am your passport. Whenever people missed this point—whenever the immediate benefit of his miracles distracted them from eternal things—the Savior backed away.
