DRIVING: Since they live in Boston, do they do a lot of driving or do they mostly walk/take public transportation?
We know Ethan has a car in canon, does he have just one? Does Tobias? What about MC? Does this change at some point?
Do they like driving? Who drives the most? What kind of passengers are they when they're not driving?
Hi Nonny,
OK, I was laughing when I got this - because I love driving, and I was thinking, this person thinks about these things as much as I do. See, to me, road trips are LIFE, so I imagine they are for my characters too. So this is fun to explore. Thank you! :)
Ethan/Kaycee:
In DTI, I imagined he had a small car collection. In my HC, I think he has an expensive, though not overly pretentious, sports sedan. He only has one until he and Kaycee are together. They begin visiting their beach home more frequently and also take some trips to the Berkshires, so he invests in an SUV in addition to their car. He always wants Kaycee to get a car as well, and she steadfastly refuses. They live in Boston, she doesn't like city driving, there is no reason. She would agree to it after Emma is born, only because it is needed for pickups and drop-offs at daycare and later school, but since they have the SUV, there is no need to add another car.
Ethan likes driving but doesn't go out of his way to do it (no joy-riding). He also prefers to drive (control freak lol). When he is a passenger, he can be a little bit of a back seat driver and intimidating. This has caused Kaycee to stop the car, get out, silently walk over and hand him the keys on more than one occasion until he learned how to reign it in. lol
When Emma learns to drive, they will both teach her, but quickly decide it's best to leave this to the professionals, so a driving school will be employed. (However, Ethan will be coming along and sitting in the back seat. His baby girl is not going out there alone until he's confident she's safe.)
Tobias/Casey:
Tobias loves cars. He has 2 when he meets Casey, a brand new Jaguar that is his pride and joy (and that he spies her in as she is thirsting over him after their first meeting in Their Start lol), and an older, more beat-up, sedan. He always has two, one is for going out, the other is for trips to the store, and "dirty work" (I'm talking real dirty work, not sex. He's more than happy to do that in either. lol)
Like in E/K world, he wants Casey to get a car, but she's like, as long as we're in a major city, NO. But he's extremely protective of her, so if he can't drive her after dark, she has to take a car service. This was a big discussion with them early on, and as he tells her, "The only T you're riding alone at night is me." lol
After Casey finds out she is pregnant, the only thing he cares about is safety. So he reassesses his cars and buys two new ones (I don't know what kind yet... give me time.) They will still have one nice sedan, and the second will likely be a hybrid SUV. Things will change when they move to DC. The neighborhood they end up in does require more driving, so he and Casey will each have cars of their own. I imagine that after Kayla, their 3rd child, they will be either SUVs or mini-vans because they will want both vehicles to be able to fit their whole family.
Tobias is an excellent driver and loves to drive. He is a "for pleasure" driver and loves long rides and road trips. He prefers to drive, but he's fine if Casey takes the wheel. She's an excellent driver, and he doesn't freak out. He tends to sit back and enjoy the view, which includes his gorgeous girlfriend/wife behind the wheel.
When the girls learn to drive, both parents teach them, but they prefer Dad (except Brooke, who tends to prefer Mom for everything.)

my older brother managed to total a car he got literally about an hour beforehand taking a turn too fast once (he was fine, thankfully) - I don’t think you gotta feel too bad about a slight ding when you’re still getting used to it
oh my god thank god he was ok. I’m going to have to go get the bumper put back on but it’s a super usable and ok car so there’s that.
