Happy Friday!🍹Cookbook illustrators of past decades never seem to get quite as much recognition as cookbook authors, which is such a pity because sometimes it’s their art that pulls you in first. 🎨 Today, we are spotlighting the whimsical food art of 20th century cookbook illustrator Joan Blume (no relation to Judy) from the cookbook, Culinary Crafting published in 1976. This cookbook is fun because it’s all about stylish ways to garnish food and decorate desserts, but Joan’s illustrations really help make the whole subject matter seem enticing and exciting. 🥗 Unlike the author (Doris McFarren Townsend) there is practically no biographical information online about Joan, even though she illustrated quite a few books in her day. As of right now, we might never know where she went to school, or what inspired her career, or why she liked food subjects best, but we do know that she can draw one heck of a pretty wedge of cheese and a beautiful cocktail. At least there is that. Her mark upon the cookbook world made with paint and brush if nothing else. Hopefully soon though, we’ll be able to add more to her story.
