Round 1 â Match 71 / 77 â Drenn vs. Mig
Drenn is a goblin who can be met at Moonrise Towers in Act Two.
"Sheâs the goblin who throws an axe into kethericâs chest and I adore her. Sheâs so badass for that and Iâm really sad that she always dies. I want to be her friend!"
vs.
Mig is an ogre working for the Cult of the Absolute who can be found in Moonrise Towers. She loves meat and claims to hear "meat-things" moving in the walls.
"First of all, she's banned from the kitchens because she's not allowed to pet the gnolls (Barnabas and co.)âabsolutely devastating. Let her pet the puppies! Second of all, she's the only bitch in the tower who notices the mindflayer infestation and despite being gaslit by the guard chillin in the room with her, she sticks to her guns and just knows there's meat in the walls, and she's gonna find it. (She also ruminates on the idea that the "meat" is in the whole tower and whether she will eat the meat or the meat has eaten her, and I'm just endlessly charmed by characters who aren't the brightest but that doesn't stop them from pondering the world around them and asking big questions about the nature of existence.) Third of all, if you meet the Absolute over above the kitchens and then go tell Mig about it, if you say the meat in the walls is mindflayers and guess that it probably tastes salty then Mig gives up her dreams of eating it because she doesn't like squid, but if you tell her it's the Absolute then she's ecstatic because of course her god is made of meat, that makes so much sense, praise the Absolute! She's a legend and an icon."

I'm 1000% serious.
Happy WBW!!! Let's do symbolism this week: does your world have any specific symbolism? Perhaps animal symbolism, like a certain animal associated with death, or good luck symbols, like certain plants?Or, really, just anything that is generally regarded as a symbol for something (I hope this makes sense lmao my coffee is wearing off hard)
Thanks, Keena!!!! It makes plenty of sense, dont worry alsdkfa
Iâve talked about Vervain flowers, purple, and the general dragon motif being symbols of the goddess Venn in a past WBW, but as for good luck symbols and other symbolic animals in-world, I have plenty!
See, part of the creation mythos for Mayhism includes Venn (goddess of magic), Delta (goddess of change), and Vii (goddess of life) doing a big olâ collaboration project over a few hundred thousand years and several hundred Growths and Decays to bring about life on Ehl as it stands today. But, while those goddess-influenced things were happening, life was still evolving like normal, and pretty much every time a new sentient species arose, like Ehlves or Humans, they would come about as like... a weird Thanos snap. Half of an animal species would suddenly have sentience and a new body to play around with, often with some wacky powers, too.
To put it in a better way, for example, the first Ehlves were created from some long-eared lemurs, and granted Elemental powers as they were created. That species of lemur is still around in the middle latitudes of Deltierin, but itâs changed a lot since then, and Ehlves are also still just chilling, existing as they do. Kind of like what would happen if evolution happened in a snap for half of the species.
Now, what does this have to do with in-world symbolism??
Some of the people of Ehl are much newer than others - Drenn, for example, have only been around for about 4,000 14,000 years. And even though thatâs a long time, theyâre still written as Fruit Dragons in literary works throughout Ehl. Or, take Mudskippers, who have been around for about 6,000 years and still call themselves by the name of the fish they came from.Â
Basically, if you want a weird, slightly niche symbol for another people on Ehl, just use the things those people came from. Itâs sometimes shitty, and not a lot of people will like it, but itâs there and has been done before.
Also I realize this is a really circular explanation but I didnât know how to frame it in any other way.
I was so excited to snag a commission slot from the supremely talented @merwild! Between the six main characters in my novel, it was a huge struggle to pick just one, but I decided on Drenn Trevas, the kingâs spymaster and mentor to the heir. Heâs a bit moody, and a bit of a loner, but deeply loyal to those he cares about. Â It turned out so lovely! :) Â The intro of his first chapter:

Round 2 â Match 35 / 38 â Drenn vs. Zanner Toobin
Drenn is a goblin who can be met at Moonrise Towers in Act Two.
"Sheâs the goblin who throws an axe into kethericâs chest and I adore her. Sheâs so badass for that and Iâm really sad that she always dies. I want to be her friend!"
vs.
Zanner Toobin is a Rock Gnome, first found in the Steel Watch Foundry in Act Three. If helping to save the kidnapped Gondians in the Iron Throne, he becomes an Attached Follower while progressing through the Foundry.
"the amount of players who lose him because he runs off / bugs out / gets killed?? very on-brand for âbaldurâs gate 3: act 3 is held together with prayersâ but it makes me even more protective. Zanner i am begging you stay within 10 feet of me at all times, i will not long rest without a headcount."

Happy WBW!
Hope you're having a great day! What are the Islands of Gordahan? Are they on saltwater or freshwater? Are they inhabited?
hi!!! happy WBW, thank you for stopping by!!!
The Isles of Gordahan are a series of archipelagos to the south of Sieril!! I actually need to rearrange my Ehlverse map a bit to get the layout right, what with the north pole currently being off center and not quite on the edge, but imagine that in this screenshot its a bit further down and a little more to the right (and that it says "kard" not "chard". and that theyre both smaller. i really need to update the layout):
But yeah!! They're right down in the middle of the ocean, and have a fairly active local volcanic system!
They are inhabited, though!! Their locals are about 95% Drenn, which are the dragon people next up on my Peoples of the Ehlverse list!! They're pretty laid back folks, much more peaceful than their size and body ornamentation might suggest :)
The other 5% tend to be descendents of Ehlven, Mulari, or Mikrona immigrants! There's some rather weird ways that cross-species fertility works there, so there's absolutely people who are a mix of two, three, or all of the above.
Also, fun fact: the reason Eternal Veratrum is so tall isn't because she's immortal! It's because her great-great-grandpa was Drenn, and the height genes hadn't quite worked their way out of the lineage quite yet :) the K'Rons are still pretty notorious for being tall to this day!!
Aberrant
"Upon his right hand, which he kept bandaged always, was an infernal mark. A burn which looked fresh as the day it was made despite having existed a great many. Making it seem time could not heal it. A symbol that looked to have been branded there intentionally. But, it had plagued him always, from the day of his birth on. As utterly apart of him as his ghostly green eyes."
Edit: Main persona (Drenn) of the changeling character Tazz-with-ghostly-green-eyes aka Tazz.
