History:
Early Life
Born into a wealthy family in Galicia in the Ukraine, then part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Casimir spent his formative years on manor grounds. He grew fascinated with medicine after an encounter with the old, local folk healing woman, who had been tending to one of the farmers that worked their land. In addition to his usual studies, he begged his father to allow him to learn more from this folk healer, who he eventually began to fondly call “Baba.”
Once he was old enough, he went on to study medicine at Jagiellonian University and then briefly the University of Padua, before he went back home. He had a whirlwind, highly sexual romance with another student while there.
By the time he returned, the healing woman had passed, leaving their apothecary without someone to run in and their medical needs heavily reliant on other healers from nearby settlements and barber-surgeons. Seeing the obvious need, Casimir offered to take it over. His family allowed this, as it was very necessary to have a doctor around to deal with the health of the estate, its farmers, and their soldiers who were often injured during raids, which were highly common during that time period.
As he was the middle son, Casimir was not expected to take up the reins of estate, but he was expected to marry. After he had somewhat settled in his practice, his parents arranged a match for him to the only daughter of another much smaller, less successful manor estate. Marriages of the time among the wealthy were primarily political or financial. This was a land acquiring marriage. Casimir’s family got more land and a wife for one of their sons. The other family saw their daughter safely married off and their lands sold, so they were free to live out the rest of their days in their other home just outside of one of the trade hubs. Their marriage was not a love match, but they did develop a fondness for each other over the years. The union resulted in the birth of two twin daughters, who Casimir absolutely doted upon when he was not occupied by work.
Beginning of His Immortal Life
When Casimir was 42, he had travelled back to Jagiellonian University for a speaking engagement and later became reacquainted with an old friend and flame at a party put on by one of the various groups at the college. During a night on the town with this is friend, he and Casimir were approached by a beautiful woman at one of the taverns, and Casimir doesn’t remember much else other than being forcibly taken somewhere against his will and his body being put through immense amounts of pain over the course of the several days as he was turned.
Once he came to, he was able to flee and made his way home, discovering his new, painful allergy to sunlight along the way. Little did he know at the time, his Sire and the rest of her Coven followed him. Their entire estate was massacred, and he was made to watch the deaths of his wife and two daughters. Following the destruction of his home, he was forced to live with this Coven for around half a century.
During that time, Casimir trained himself nightly to defy the will of his Sire—a command he could not ordinarily disobey—so that when a stronger, rival coven came for them, he would not be forced to protect her at the cost of his own life. After openly defying her and watching the other coven take over, he made his departure, finally free.
The Rest of His Immortal Life Up Until Now
After traveling the world for several centuries and picking up hobbies like fencing, smoking, and dancing, he settled in Prague for a time, where he met and fell head over heels in love with @vampirereese. They were together for almost a century before it came to an end over Casimir’s decision to return to medicine as a therapist. Filled with deep regret and a hole in his heart he didn’t know how to fill, he pursued his medical goals anyway, feeling as if it was the only thing he had left.
He studied under various experts in the field all across the globe over the course of about twenty years, even returning to University during that time, until he re-emerged in WWII to help care for soldiers both human and supernatural that were experiencing “combat fatigue” (now called PTSD), and unbeknownst to him, narrowly missing his ex-lover while there.
He continued to travel after this and focused his profession on Immortals and other Supernatural beings more than humans. He also resumed his hobbies of dancing and fencing during this time, the smoking had never left.
Sometime in the late 80’s, he found himself in Santorini where he was threatened by @angelustheancient for trespassing in his territory. After some conversation and perhaps a bit of bonding over their rather lonely existences, Casimir settled in the area for almost twenty years while taking Angelus on as a more long-term patient, and later, close friends. The two remain friends to this day.
After continued travels and work for more years, and a much needed vacation/road trip on a motorcycle that spanned a few months, he settled back in Prague, where he has both his office and a townhouse with a back garden and a detached garage. He spends most of his nights at work, but can be found quite frequently at the social dance clubs and communities in the area.
