Delicately Beautiful Bamboo Screen Inspired by Tea Making!
An innovative take on the classic Chinese screen. Designer Jeff Dayu Shi, founder of Dragonfly Studio, created a Chinese standing screen installation for Beijing Design Week on display at Capital M. Each panel uses a different bamboo weaving technique and design which comes together in a lovely and striking contemporary take on this traditional Chinese craft.
According to Jeff/Dragonfly Studio's design summary:
The renowned tea from the Wuyi Mountains [Fujian, China] owes its reputation to the skillfully plaited bamboo upon which the leaves are dried. Inspired by the talented craftsmen who fashion these bamboo pieces.
...with panels featuring the delicate bamboo plaiting created by craftsmen from Taiwan.
If you look at our photos of tea production from Tranquil Tuesdays' previous tea harvest sourcing trips to origin (photo albums here and here), you will see the original bamboo trays that tea making relies on and which inspired Jeff's bamboo screen.
We were at Capital M yesterday for one of the talks during the Beijing Design Week Design Salon series for an enriching discussion about "Luxury and Craft" featuring three prominent designers. Highlights from that coming in the next couple of days.
Stay tuned as we continue to update live from Beijing Design Week 2012!

3.24.10 Cinder Road
5 weeks ago we started the new Cinder Road record. Now it's just about done. Final editing is being completed here in VA, additional "glitz and glitter" is being done in Los Angeles and mixing begins this week with Anthony Focx (Aerosmith, Buckcherry). The album sounds great and Mike wrote a great bunch of songs! It was also a pleasure to work with Scott Stevens (producer) on this record, even though I never got him to sing me "My Goddess" from his band the Exies. Next time.
Photos and video will be here soon. (a couple of the amps used below)
