#dr3 discourse

So I remember starting DR3 and thinking “hmm, I dunno how I feel about this new Naegi...” I figured oh well he’s probably like 20 or something by now so they’re just writing him as more mature. I realized my beef was not in fact with the character but with the writing of the story itself. The story sort of made Naegi out to be a bit like a mary sue type, and we know he’s not a mary sue because we’ve seen his character flaws before. But with the writing in the anime, it didn’t really show off his flaws at all. Which really sucks because his flaws are a huge part of his character. Like there was no time for Naegi to screw up or get super emotional like usual, except maybe episode 10 but it was pretty fast. None of his actions in the story were emotionally driven, they were all for the plot stuff and everything revolving around him was all plot stuff. Like there wasn’t time for him to get upset over things or try to help his friends because TIME CONSTRAINTS AND HEY NAEGI YOU GOTTA MOVE THE STORY ALONG. I wanted to see him to stupid reckless shit like when Asahina got shot, fucking bring her anyways, he probably would want to??? Naegi said Kirigiri didn’t tell him her forbidden action because he would do something reckless. I WANT TO SEE THAT. the writing didn’t leave time for Naegi to show off his flaws, and his flaws are what make him a likable character!!! the plot kinda made him do everything alone and used his friends and all the other characters as stepping stones... which sucked. thanks tengan i guess.

Another thing with that is a big part of Naegi is how he supports his friends. In DR3, once again we didn’t really get to see that because everything revolved around Naegi, instead of revolving around the whole cast. there wasnt a sense of mutual support in Naegi’s interactions with the cast, or at least his friends because it was just them cheering him on or giving him support because thats probably all they had time for. but anyways I think you get the idea.

so then theres like the shit with Kirigiri’s death, and like. I mean her death had meaning and whatever and could have been so good, but they kind of dropped it after episode 10 so it was kinda poor. also she was only killed off for the manpain(tm) and i complained about this before but. Juzo died and then was brought back but nobody complained about that because its *Kuzo* also he actually DID something. Kirigiri didn’t get to do anything cool when she was revived. she just walked back on. and I mean her being alive is perfectly in character so i’m not salty about that, like if anyone’s going to find a way to keep themselves from dying it’s gonna be the queen of getting out of situations alive. But anyways, I’m salty at how nothing really happened from her death (except manpain(tm)). We didn’t see her reuniting with her friends, we don’t even know if she suffered at all from any after effects from the poison?? either Tsumiki is that good or she just got better in those several months before the end of hope arc. She was just *OK!!!* like, I’m glad but?? why did she die in the first place then?? Hell they could have handled that so much differently and get the same effect maybe even better. I wish there was just more time to actually allow characters to be emotional instead of having to dive right back into the plot and leaving no time for any of that.

im hoping when (we probably will at some point) we get a dr3 manga, it’ll give us some more insight on everything but thats just me
