Some more random Dr. Stone thoughts.
I was looking back at season 2 to better understand some characterizations.
I observed something about Senku’s characterization. He is the trope of the emotionally constipated genius, like Spock and Sheldon. Gen understands this and it seems some of his interaction with Senku trying to pick at that emotional constipation. I mean, really it’s a delicious challenge for someone like him, whether you ship them or not. He tells the tale of Senku to kids and Senku is over there and responds sarcastically. He gives him an observatory and one can see Senku almost break to tears but then he collects himself.
Yet twice we do see Senku get that side out. The first is when he speaks to Taiju for the first time in a year and his eyes water. The second is the end of the season with his private conversation with Tsukasa.
Oddly enough, even though Tsukasa has only been with Senku for a short amount of time, I think Tsukasa actually knows him the best. He says outright that Senku is actually very sentimental and thats why he set up Chrome as bait. Senku knew that there was someone Tsukasa was trying to protect if it didn’t seem like he wanted money for himself.
So in the end, Senku does something very rare, he actually opens up to Tsukasa, knowing that could be the last time. Knowing that the process will and does kill him (this isn’t true cryosleep, he’s preserving his corpse). He makes small talk, he asks nonsense questions, he reminiscences and its a very touching scene and the gravity is there.
I wish they had better interactions later on. Maybe they do but I forgot.
