Why Dr.Lecter say no more, when’s dinner starting? I’ll bring the wine.
Hannibal: *stares directly into Will's eyes*
Will: ... what?
Hannibal: I see murder in your eyes
Will: ...
Hannibal: So beautiful

Episode 1X02, Amuse-Bouche
After having viewed four episodes of Hannibal, one of the most unique components of the show that I’ve taken note of so far is how the director utilizes sound. For instance, in the beginning of episode 2, “Amuse-Bouche”, the viewer is presented with a scene where Will is practicing his shooting at the range with low, dull volume in the background; however, the tone of this scene rapidly transforms as his target changes to a dead body. The transition of volume and rhythm intensifies as the scene progresses and leaves us as watchers on the edge of our seats. These loud, glaring noises are used in many other scenes throughout the series, such as when they discover the cabin with the deer carcasses, to convey a more serious, scary vibe. Contrarily, whenever Will is in the presence of his house, there tends to almost be an absence of any sound at all. I believe that the director is trying to portray Will’s time at his house as a tranquil, comforting place where he is able to step away from his chaotic and truculent work life. Additionally, while the true meaning of the dogs has not fully been explained yet, I think that it plays on this symbolism that Will’s house is his place of peace. Although it seems to enjoy his work as an FBI agent, Will can only psychologically take so much before he hits his breaking point. This stark contrast between Will’s life at home versus at work is emphasized through the different sounds chosen in each scene.
