what's one thing you wish will happen in season 3 but know it won't
ben going to therapy. specifically with dr. ryan.
one thing i like about the show is that it normalizes therapy, ESPECIALLY for brown girls. as a desi coming from a family that is very therapy positive and benefits from therapy, i know first hand how some other desis refuse to believe in it and shame those who seek professional help because they are taught to believe it’s a sign of weakness. i love the fact that devi goes to therapy. the therapy sessions aren't the most realistic but that's fine bc it's a comedy show and overall therapy is presented in a positive light. even aneesa mentions going to therapy for her ed and i like how it's never made a big deal.
the reason i would like to see ben go to therapy is simply because i think he needs it. just like devi (although much less extreme), he tends to try and solve his loneliness with romantic relationships but... the core of the problem is not solved. his parental issues. the abandonment trauma he grew up with. the bragging and overcompensation that only ends up incrementing his loneliness by driving people away, all because he wants attention. the name dropping and dad-flaunting are things about him i find lovable from a comedic perspective but it's actually kinda... sad to think about??? i would like at least a mention of him going to therapy or something. dr. ryan being his therapist is something i know i will never see, but i just think the dynamic would be equal parts heartwarming as funny.
devi, you are so desperate to not feel sad, you’ve made your whole world about this boy.
