Common Core ELA Anchor Standards
The implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) has brought out the ideological fight in many educators. Some educators believe the school experience be should similar to the way they were taught in the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's. Educators bring personal Parochial, Public, Private and Homeschool experiences with them as they teach. Such diverse experiences makes for a mixed ideology, expectations and practices. To help clarify what students are expected to learn...enter the CCSS stage left.
The CCSS expectations has become as clear as mud, for some educators and parents. To help clarify CCSS, we created the Common Core ELA Word Cloud which is a more user-friendly approach to identifying the key ELA learning targets. The Common Core ELA Word Cloud extracts the key elements of what students are expected to learn during their k-12 experience.Â
Crunching all the technical language down to the guts of what all learners need to know is especially helpful for teachers and parents of Special Education students. This straight-forward Word Cloud can help parents, teacher and intervention specialists write IEP academic goals aligned to the CCSS; indicating what learners are expected to know and be able to do. The Common Core ELA terminology will be more easily linked to the cognitive aspects of a student's IEP goals. This will help focus the practice of accommodations and assessment strategies in the full inclusion model. Now the intervention assistance team (teachers, parents and learner) have a more complete focus of resources and academic practices, in order to meet the Common Core student learning goals. This will help shift the focus away from what's easier for the adults and attorneys; thus, refocusing on what's best for the learner.
