Happy Welcome Home Day, Ellie! September 30, 2010, I saw a dachshund on Facebook. Someone posted that they could no longer take care of her. The reasons are vague; they made it sound like one member of the couple was going off to school or being deployed. It was only one photograph, of a skinny, dappled short-hair tucked under a guy’s arm like a football. Her big brown eyes were looking right into the camera...And I knew she was mine. The next day, we were in the car and headed to North Carolina to pick her up. (I can be very convincing.) These pictures are from that night, October 1, 2010, at my Dad’s house, which was halfway back home. The reason I have my foot on her is because she bonded immediately, and, although exhausted, refused to sleep. She seemed to be afraid one of us would leave if she closed her eyes. You can see how anxious her eyes were in the awake shot on the bottom. The top is her finally asleep, hugging my foot. The second picture is our first hug. I was immediately her person. The third picture was taken at home on October 30, 2010. My little pumpkin 🎃. So Ellie actually had three Gotcha Days: the day I found her, the day we got her, and the day she made it to our house, which is today, October 2. We celebrate all three. 🎉 She was young when we got her, so we assume she is about 11 or so years old, maybe 11 and a half. She is currently sleeping by my side, her favorite place, hogging the left side of my body pillow. We are planning a special dinner; she and Arlo already received dried chicken skin this morning. #Elliethedachshund #ellie #dachshunds #dachshundsofinstagram #doubledapple #dappledachshund #dachshundlove #family #petsofinstagram #petsagram #adoptdontshop #rescuedachshund #love #autumnstories #gotchaday #gotchadayanniversary https://www.instagram.com/p/CF20PA8Dcle/?igshid=1rpo3gcg7zh10
