As a former double bass player:-
If Roger Allam was a musical instrument, he would be a double bass.
- gorgeous rumbly low notes
- but can go surprisingly high too
- incredible in an ensemble (large or small) and generally works well with others, but also breathtaking in solo work
- underestimate the versatility and glory at your peril
- expressive, sensitive, enormous emotional range; powerful and vulnerable and radiant
- a glorious asset in every genre
- clearly very huggable
- sexier than anyone was anticipating
- not in the violin family

A step forward, I am totally lost between the thorns and hedges. Every which way leads back to where I started... Just outed myself on a bass players' forum as using they pronouns - now I'm waiting to see whether they're shitheels about it. Some of them have already proved to be celebrity-abuser apologists and "PC"-haters so wish me luck.
