well now i'm thinking about newt scamander and the jackal as enemies based on me and @keepmeinmind-01's conversation.
on one particular assignment, the jackal poses as newt—"kills" him, not knowing he's a wizard—and newt has to try and stop him.
the jackal is a fundamentally selfish character; he has no qualms with sacrificing anyone in pursuit of his goals. the other side of the spectrum is newt; even though he loves fantastic beasts, he has just as much compassion for humans. he risks life and limb to help the helpless.
yet the thing that unites the jackal and newt is relentless skill. they're both supernaturally competent, the best of the best in their respective fields. they're slippery, exceptionally good at escaping their enemies. and they're relentlessly devoted to their causes.
the jackal challenges newt morally, and newt's magic/wizardry challenges the jackal professionally (he shoots him, and newt still gets away!) i think they'd both be drawn to the other.
(and the jackal is named after a beast, a fact that isn't lost on newt)
anyways they'd be such good narrative foils in a crossover
it’s crazy that eddie redmayne somehow made white felon anti surveillance family annihilator core ass fits look twinky and chic but somehow he did this for ten episodes of day of the jackal. incredible. who else could look so good while ruining their own life for profit.
