A tricky aspect for Vigil's ability is naturally getting an access to blood, and I always felt like despite his tough exterior, his do good little heart probably wouldn't prefer to use it from other people. Sometimes. Depends. He won't actively aim to cut an enemy, but if it just so happens they're bleeding from somewhere he will take the opportunity to use a bit of their blood to form miniature blades.

Back to topic! Due to this, Vigil mostly relies on himself for this and it's why despite his rather dangerous work, he's rather lacking in armor? Or anything actively protective. Especially with his arms, which have become his main point of getting blood. This can come to a point where he'll slice his palm, cut his forearm, so on and so forth that lets him have an access point.

I like to imagine it's why he'd have a good chunk of scars going around his form most likely, I'd say Vigil has a medium ish pain tolerance so most of the time an open wound is an opportunity for him. Doesn't mean he lets himself get hit all nilly willy!!

But it's also why you can see he probably does scavenge for bandages often. But I also feel like knowing Vigil he probably makes do with just simple fabrics and clothes to wrap around his wounds.

I contemplated a bit if this,, sort of counts as self harm? It's hard to fully,, find a ground on what I think, but I feel like it's not exactly. I feel like for Vigil, akin to Marie Moreau, simply rationalizes it as his way of using his ability. Nothing deeper or deprecating. But I also feel like it's a good tell tale sign of how reckless and careless he can be when it comes to himself?

I feel like there's always a point that comes back to the fact that for Vigil, he is roleless, and because of that, it's quite hard to think too kindly of your self value. I don't think he actively thinks of himself as worthless, but it's a concept that does linger y'know? One he doesn't actively face or let himself hang around for too long. Out of sight, out of mind concept.

But I feel like when you are an individual living inside a society where roles and titles are everything and designate your standing it can be impactful to your mindset and how you view yourself, how many times would Vigil think about that if he died, no one would know? That if he got hurt, no one would be aware? So on and so forth with many other thoughts like that.

I think an important part of Vigil's character for me is how he tries to make most of his life but at the same time, still sort of holds himself back? He obviously wants belonging, he wants acceptance and kinship in the way he'll let himself reside in the warmth and song of a tavern, etc etc - but for some reason, still decides to keep himself in the dark and ultimately letting himself unknown.

But changing topic !! despite Vigil's dual blades shown within the drawings above, I need to reiterate he uses it only when neccasary. He has another weapon he uses that he considers his main. Also do not mind how the weapon looks WHAAWH we ball when it comes to weapon designs!! But I also wanted the weapon to sort of look,, sharp, jagged but spikey y'know?

His abilities can come and be utilized to be more than just weapons, in the section of the theatre that Vigil resides, he has set traps here and there that can be activated with his ability. While in concept Vigil can very much make smaller objects like keys or spoons, it's,, not really something he does often haha. Feels like a waste to use his blood just to make day to day items he can probably find.

And all things have consequences, losing blood will eventually make him tired, slow and sluggish.

To put it simply, Vigil becomes anemic🥀

I like to think considering the species the puppets are as entities, they likely wouldn't die as something as simple as blood loss - so to Vigil, using too much of his blood won't be a sign that he's dying but moreso he's getting tired and battery low haha. As in, he needs a nap. Again, why he chooses his ability sparingly since getting back that energy may take some long hours.

It's why I imagine after any trips or excursion Vigil does in the kingdom where he gets in a fight or chase, he gets incredibly tired and probably sleeps a lot back at his little 'room'.

I also think due to the nature of his ability, Vigil doesn't,, have much opportunity to practice or learn more about it. Frankly it'd unnerve him to think of using it on another person because god knows what'll happen!! It's why he's more comfortable to simply using it on himself since at least then the mistake would be on him.

It'd also be why he'd have very limited knowledge and how he sorta,, softlocks himself to where he is now haha

Because I feel like Vigil has a LOT of potential with his ability. As stated, what he doesn't know is that consuming or drinking more blood can actively heal him, replenish energy and even make him stronger and deadlier. And as you can guess, he probably doesn't know this because why would he ever drink blood? (Plus where would he get that blood,, kinda counter intuitive to take his own blood just to drink it LHLH)

There's also the potential for him to use his ability to sense or understand the blood of others, I'm taking inspiration for this from Marie Moreau and how she can sense that a blood on a person can be theirs or someone elses. For example, Vigil can meet Jestyn and find him stained with blood, and if he understood his ability enough to get to this point, can probably discern if this is Jestyn's own blood or a blood of a victim.

It could go even deeper where he can feel and sort of examine the blood in someone's bloodstream, or even hear someone's heartbeat. But again Vigil's sort of softlocked himself so he doesn't get this!!!

I like to imagine due to his ability his persona as the thief of thieves and overall outlaw makes him look and seem scarier to other puppets haha

guy looks like THIS and has an ability like THAT?? hell nah!!! Townspuppets (And maybe nobles) spread horror stories about the bloody rogue </3 (add in on how his face actually looks like they probably think hes a beast NOO) Unbeknownst to them said bloody rogue is chilling by the bar pretending to drink at his beer and is the theatres little shit!!!!
