I am now thinking about how Ianthe clearly wants Harrow and can read her better than Harrow really acknowledges and how even if Ianthe wanted to comfort her after the G1donâs attack in the bath - she probably couldnât.
Ianthe Tridentarius doesnât comfort people.
Ianthe Tridentarius has made it a big part of herself that she has no emotional connection to anyone.
I gotta wonder if that annoyed or angered her that Harrow very much could have been hers completely (at least thatâs what Gideon clearly believes) for the small small price of some real emotional connection or comfort but because Ianthe Tridentarius TM doesnât do that the opportunity was lost.

Gregory was silent as Cassie dragged him away from the ruins of the Pizzaplex. Cassieâs face was scratched up, and one of her pigtails was loose, putting hair in her face. She slumped against a building taking a deep breath before scowling at Gregory.
âWhat were you doing in there?â
âI wasâŚâ Gregory shifted his weight, tugging on the weird watch around his wrist. âYou know what I was doing, Cassie.â
âYeah? I wanna hear it in your words, Gregory. That whole place was shifty, and we agreed-â
âI know what we agreed, Cassie! I know that! Do I regret going in there? Maybe a little, but given the chance to do it again, I would.â His lip quivered slightly. âThereâs just a few details I would change, thatâs all.â
âWhat could possibly be worth going back for?â Cassie scoffed. âThe animatronics were out to get you. The security guard was out to get you. That crazy lady in the rabbit costume was out to get you. Oh. And that rotting rabbit in the basement tried to manipulate both of us so it could recover from whatever was going on. So please. Share what was worth it in there, Greg. Because honestly, given the chance, Iâd do everything I could to make it so you never stepped foot into that building.â
â...â Gregory muttered something under his breath.
âWhat?â
Gregoryâs head shot up as he shouted, âFreddy!â Tears started falling from his eyes. âIf Iâd never gone in there, I never wouldâve met him.â
âFreddy?â Cassie echoed. âThe⌠bear?â
âYeah.â Gregory swiped at his eyes. âThe bear. He tried to protect me. He kept me safe.â
âUntil when?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âWhen did he stop protecting you. Because obviously, in case you didnât notice, I was the one who rescued you.â
âI donât rememberâŚâ Gregory sniffled, rubbing at his eyes again. âBut he wouldnât abandon me, I know that much.â
âAre you sure?â Cassie pressed. Her encounter with the band leader had felt a bit off. Sure, the animatronic was missing half his casing, and maybe a bit of his endo as well, but when heâd asked about Gregory, there had been an undertone to his words. An undertone that convinced Cassie to lie and say she didnât know what he was talking about. An undertone that made her leave him behind. An undertone that made her ignore his dispaired cry as the T.V. behind Cassie had flickered on, showing Gregory running away from something, begging for help.
âHe wouldnât abandon me. Not if he had a choice. What makes you sure he wouldnât? Cassie, you didnât see Freddy, so how would you know?â Gregory finally dropped to the cement lining the alleyway. Cassie winced at the way his knees cracked when they hit the pavement. âUnless, you did see him.â Gregoryâs eyebrows furrowed. âCassie, you didnâtâŚâ
âI didnât what?â Cassie stood up, glancing around. âLook, we should probably keep moving.â
âYou didnât do anything to Freddy, did you? You didnât destroy him, right?â
Cassie hesitated. She didnât know how to tell him that Freddyâs eyes had flickered purple for a moment, and sheâd torn his casing free to get at the wiring in his head. She didnât want to tell him that the light had completely gone from his eyes, and even the scratchy voice box went silent as the animatronic ceased movement. âI didnât see Freddy.â
âYou swear?â Gregory slowly got to his feet.
âYeah, whatever. Gregory, we gotta go-â Cassie reached for his wrist.
Gregory jerked his hand away. âGive me your word.â
Cassie paused for a moment, frowning. She hated to lie. âI never found him. He was gone.â Her hand clenched into a fist, nails digging into her palm. âOk?â
Gregoryâs shoulders slumped, and his eyebrows creased. It was an agonized expression, and he didnât respond right away. But when he eventually did respond, they were nearly four blocks away.
âOk.â He sniffled again. âI just wish I never lost him. During the fireâŚâ Gregory swallowed harshly. âDuring the fire, we got separated. The ceiling caved on us, and Freddy just told me to keep running. He promised to come find me.â
Cassie forced her shoulders to remain straight. âHe never got the chance to keep his promise. SoâŚâ
âSo what? He probably got ruined in the fire, Cassie. And itâs my fault!â
The words Cassie was about to say vanished from her tongue. âHe wouldnât have wanted you to blame yourself.â
âI know that!â Gregoryâs voice echoed in the street.
âShut up!â Cassie hissed, grabbing Gregoryâs arm above his watch. âYou want us to get caught? You want to lose me too?â
Gregory flinched. âCassieâŚâ
âJust walk. Iâd forget about the bear too, if I were you. Heâs not coming back.â
âYou canât know that,â Gregory retorted, falling into step beside her. âYou never met him. He wasâŚâ
âWhat was he, Gregory?â Cassie sank her teeth down hard into her lower lip. âWhat was he to you?â
âCassie, he was like⌠Forget it. I know you hate vulnerability.â
âYou can talk to me.â
âHe was the father I wish Iâd had, okay? And I just left him there. Alone. To die.â
âAnimatronics canât die.â
âThey abandoned the building. You saw the wreck. They didnât even bother recovering the animatronics for scrap. Nobodyâs going to help him.â Gregory was crying again.
Cassie elbowed him. âWell, rumor on the street says those animatronics are haunted. Maybe Freddyâs got a ghost to wake him up and keep him going.â
âYou really think so?â
Cassie had seen the glowing purple eyes. She believed it more than anything. Those pieces of junk wouldnât have come after them without a bossy ghost telling them what to do. âYeah, sure. Thereâs apparently a guy who's been bit by one out there too.â
âBy a ghost?â Gregory replied, wiping his face with a slight smirk.
âYes, Gregory. Ghosts can definitely bite people.â Cassie rolled her eyes. âWanna see if we can find the guy?â
âWeâve got nothing better to do,â Gregory said. âMight as well.â
Cassie relaxed slightly. Everything would be fine again. Sheâd retrieved her annoying friend, and after humoring him for a while, maybe heâd finally start listening to her suggestions. As he said, he didnât really have anything better to do.
