okay we all know and love ep 49 for its second docks duo interaction, which is the angel ring scene, but the first moment they have is at least half as fascinating. andor calls jordan over to the valley below his towers, and makes surprisingly awkward small talk before he "shakes off the jitters" and asks about how jordan got the pivot of balance. he doesn't mention it by name, so jordan is confused about which plot-relevant rapier he means, but this was pretty clearly meant to be the Moment where the two of them talk about the whole Taint Consuming Dagrun After Being Exploded Situation. it wasn't, because jordan had to go looking for the rapier and then got distracted with asking andor why he doesn't want to be king, but the setup was very clearly headed that direction.
as it was, though, andor says that he's been in darkness for three weeks, and that he needs to travel, because he can feel his powers awakening. jordan privately insists that andor is undervaluing himself and would be a great king, that even helgrind knew it, and that he would be willing to be a "figurehead king with andor behind the scenes." he also immediately offers to let andor keep the pivot of balance, and when andor refuses, decides instead to give him a second gift alongside the angel ring- the rapier andor's revenge, now renamed to andor's rebirth, the weapon that had caught lieutenant al's attention when confiscated in the inertia.
andor doubles down on the fact that he needs to leave. jordan is supportive, doesn't push at all for him to change his mind, but insists that he needs to give him a gift before he goes. the gift, of course, is the angel ring- and the rapier that is modeled after but notably different than his grandfather's blade.
