Kaboom! The Dobberdinsdag ride peaked at 13 riders of which quite a few newbies. Wind of change. The Scorpions would have been proud. Today’s strong wind created a bit of chaos in this mixed gruppetto; so much for an easy dobber ride. People got dropped and the rookie youngster even needed a gentle push in the back to get him home safely. At age 25 half the age of most riders in today’s pack but also half the experience in riding the wind. The tank was empty. Are we there yet?

We skipped the Dam tot Dam Fietsclassic this year and opted for our own route; the Windjammers’ version of Heere Heeresma’s novel Een dagje naar het strand. Before the beach we had the polders and after the beach we had the dunes; a treacherous headwind came to play on our way back home. With a 10 rider group of mostly Windjammers veterans we rode steadily and grupo compacto back into the city. No drama and all smiles, and at De Ysbreeker café new plans were made for future events.
