Console Sports Games of 1994 - Windjammers
Windjammers (also known as Flying Power Disc) is an action-sports game developed and published by Data East Corporation in 1994. Released originally for the Arcade and Neo Geo platforms, the game later expanded to Neo Geo CD in 1995, and it saw multiple re-releases on modern platforms such as Wii (2010), PlayStation 4 and PS Vita (2017), and Nintendo Switch (2018). Windjammers is based the real world Sport of Frisbee Tennis, where two players aim to score points by throwing a disc into goals behind their opponent.
The gameplay features top-down, fast-paced action with two basic moves: regular throw and lob. Players can add spin to their throws and use special signature moves for a futuristic twist. There are six characters to choose from, each with unique abilities and their own specialized courts. Games are played in short, timed sets, and players need to win two sets to secure a match victory. The game also includes two fun mini-games: Flying Disc Bowling and a game of fetch with a dog.
