Something sweet.
So the current D&D campaign I am involved in is in the Obojima setting. It’s basically a Miyazaki film with Zelda elements and we’re playing as a host of children who belong to a scout troop in one of the interior small towns.
Honestly, it’s a hoot. Mostly because we’ve started playing and the kids’ personalities are starting to come together! Which is good because I’ve had some real pushback from my DM on the character I’ve built. BUT. Last session, we finally had a convo with a 💡 moment for him!
Basically, I have built a tiny 10yo girl child who is the heir to a shipping company with a negligent parent who also has a TON of expectations and cultural rules. She has been sent to this village to stay with a company assistant without a lot of information on WHY. She’s been signed up for scouts because a. The assistant is not really a parent and has zero clue what to do w the boss’s kid and b. she can’t do dance practice and school exclusively. She’s tiny (for a human) and everything you would expect for a proper, sweet, seen-not-heard rich girl.
She’s built as a barbarian. With an absolutely busted strength modifier. (It was og 10 but my dm made me change it.) Because she’s 10! And a child! And I love giving myself in-game obstacles that shape my role play!
The conflict is that my DM has been pushing me to change her class to a rogue or a monk and has been really confused at why I built her as a human barbarian. But! They finally Got It when we hit a point in an encounter where she finally raged! Because they finally got why this character, this CHILD would be a well of barely suppressed rage and anger.
She’s lonely! And has zero control in her life or circumstances! And when she hits a point in an adventure where someone/someTHING else tries to take more choices from her? Loaded damn gun. She just happens to be 10, tiny, and her one gift is she kicks like a dancer.
And it was really nice to see the DM finally clock it in real time!
That said, I feel vaguely bad that I am not on my party’s level with stat building. For me, I build as I go, trying to see what is correct for the character in the mood/place they are in when a level up happens. Building out all the possibilities and using mechanics in my favor is just not not my jam, tho it is fun to watch my party have a good time with it!
like I honestly still haven’t properly processed star wars dnd so i might not ever like sometimes i wake up and just convince myself it was a dream and then the day after i’ll wake up and give myself a heart murmur realizing i didn’t in fact dream it up
For Christmas I want my party members to stop blinding themselves with a magic jar. (Playing dnd rn. Please save my poor bard/cleric.)

human cleric
elf wizard
human wizard
halfling monk
tiefling warlock
aasimar warlock
human sorcerer
Okay let's see I'm just. Spaghetti-ing at this point bc new guy seems to be winning sjdjfk sooo
Bard, Cleric, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard are the remaining classes that are on the table.
Oh also I just remembered! On the table to recycled characters is Juni, my silly little jester-monk. I think her og subclass is uh. Homebrew so I might need to take her in a slightly different direction but. She is also a possumbility
Addition to D&D OC #4: They’re just a typical human that gets sent to the D&D universe. And it was either originally a game, or not, and it’s just a typical fantasy universe that the OC gets taken to- I like the second idea a little more.
Anyway, found family addition, too :)
Most dnd parties begins with people having no idea how they got their lol
Last playthrough I did I had my friends characters wake up getting shipped to an island with no recollection of how they got crammed in the boat
