No, it doesn't make you look poor. That's a lie made up by classists and big brands that want you to buy and consume from them. Start thrifting. You can't because you're not allowed to? Wear hand me downs. Order from trustworthy small businesses.

They abuse their workers, dropship all their accessories and make low quality clothing that is not ethical. They are a big brand that ultimately contributes to fashion waste and slaps an "alt" label on it.
Honestly at this point anything that is made by a big corporation isn't ethical anymore, they just price up the shirt that costs them 50 cents to make so that you think its better quality than it actually is. Alt fashion isn't punk if it comes from stores like Dangerfield or jay jays. Make something. Crochet, knit, sew, modify. Thrift stuff. Pick up floor loot. Steal small things from stores, you definitely need it more than them.
Also, haircuts. Alt hair should not be expensive. Do it yourself. Don't buy into some lady saying she will give you the mullet. You know damn fucking well it'll be the most horrendous Bob of your lifetime. Cut your hair yourself. It's not horrifying or scary or terrible if you mess up. It grows back.
Stay educated. Education is the best form of resistance. The dumber people are, the easier it gets for people to be controlled. Learn. Grow. Graduate high school. Get a scholarship and go to university if you like. Use the platform you get to advocate for minorities and help people. Don't let people tell you that you're stupid, ever.
More people need to realize that most social norms are imposed by a horrible amount of consumer culture. Punk started with diy, and it's been watered down into a costume. Fucking do it yourself and stop spiraling into the shithole of corporations trying to make money off of the very subculture that hates them.
