I have come to a realization.

Luca is essentially like the Italian and Disney version of the little vampire.

The main characters are shipped together because let be honest the movies make their friendship just that little bit fruitier than nesicarily should be. There's a fem character throw in as a bit of a 'there isn't any proper like love story but maybe if we add her people won't ship the two boys, have her kinda low key flirt a bit just to be sure' and the whole hiding it from the parents till absolutely last minute because they wouldn't understand or they are trying keep mc safe or something like that. The underlining plot of one or both being hunted in some way by main antagonist.
