day 1 - hangover

Harry wakes up in the Whirling after the tribunal.

YOU: You wake, suddenly. It hurts. Everything hurts. Your shoulder, your leg. It is dark - you lift yourself up on your elbow. By the light - and the cold air - coming in through the broken window - you can see you are in your old room in the Whirling, in a soiled nest of bloody sheets. You are alone. “Kim?” you ask. “Kim?”

Nothing. Just the wind blowing snow across the floor through the broken window.

This isn’t right. Where’s Kim? Where has he gone? Why has he left you like this, alone and in pain?

The door to your room is open. Darkness yawns beyond. “Kim?” you ask again, hesitantly. A soft hush of wind, across your forehead, as if soothing you. No other response.

You climb out of bed, groaning, and stumble, nearly falling. The pain is unimaginable. Your leg is on fire, and it’s reaching deep inside you. You lean heavily on the desk, then the wall, limping to the doorway. The hallway is vast and silent, the stairwell dark and empty. There is something terrible down there. You cannot go down there. Your heart hammers in your chest and your body feels slow and unresponsive, a sick feeling rising inside you.

“Kim?” you ask, staggering to his door. You lean on it, hard, and hit it with the flat of your hand. It connects with a dull flat sound. Nothing. You try again. Nothing, still, nothing. The wind behind you, again, ruffling your hair back. Cold fingers on your forehead.
