Alex inhales deeply and hums. They really do love a good cup of coffee in the morning.
“Are you nervous at all?” Eve asks.
Alex takes a sip of coffee. Are they nervous?
“Yes and no,” they eventually say. “To be honest, I feel a lot less nervous than I did the first time I did this.”
“Seriously?” Coby asks from behind the camera.
Alex shrugs.
“I mean, some of it may be because I’ve got experience with this,” they joke before quickly sobering. “Some of it might also be because-”
Because there’s no pressure this time around. Yes, they are on a show whose main goal is to end with Lucy receiving and accepting a proposal, but the choice to propose is ultimately Alex’s. They could walk away without a word and no one would stop them.
(Lucy would.)
“Because I’m asking my best friend to marry me,” they say.

"of course i’m a little curious. i’ve heard great things about you." Ship of your choice if you're looking for a prompt (unless you want a suggestion for ship!)
Hi! Thank you so much for the prompt! I noticed that you usually write for Alex/Lucy so I thought that I would try my hand at that! I hope you enjoy this story!
Alex sat at the bar, a beer in one hand, and she was playing with a fidget cube of all things in the other. Kara had gotten it for her, as a joke, but Alex found the tiny toy useful in helping her deal with her frustration and anxiety. And right now she was both.
Today had been the worst and to top it all off her new partner was suppose to arrive tomorrow. Alex didn’t want a new partner. She liked the old one just fine and it had taken her months to break him in. (That was of course an old joke between her and Alan.)
She took a sip of her beer and tried not to think about the accident six months ago that had changed everything for them both.
She clicked the little switch on the cube a little harder, ignoring her desire to dig her nails into the scar on her leg.
Alex took another sip of her beer and tried to control herself. She was tempted to order another one and to get drunk enough so that she could sleep without dreaming. But she knew that J’onn would be disappointed with her if she showed up hungover tomorrow.
So with a sigh, she finished her beer and moved to stand up, only to stop when someone slid into the seat across from her.
“Hey, is this seat taken?” A beautiful brunette asked her, her hazel grey eyes sparkling in the overhead light.
“Um no. But I was just leaving.” Alex said, motioned towards the door.
The woman looked between the door and Alex and her eyes seemed to linger for a moment, looking Alex up and down.
It took Alex a second to realize that she was being checked out. She grew visibly flustered, at the idea of this woman finding her attractive.
Her knowledge that she was into women was fairly knew and not something that she had shared with anyone. She wasn’t sure how her sister would react and she knew it would just be yet another thing that her mom would be disappointed in her about so it was better to just keep it to herself. Feeling bold she shifted in her seat and looked the other woman in the eyes and smiled.
“Perhaps I could be convinced to stay.”
The stranger smiled back and raised her drink. “Can I buy you another drink?”
Alex nodded and the woman signaled over to the bartender.
“Another one of whatever she was having, please?”
The bartender nodded and shortly after brought Alex another beer.
“So tell me about yourself?” Alex said, taking a sip of her drink.
“Maybe start with your name?” She teased. She tried to use her skills an agent to help her keep her cool, but internally she was freaking out. She didn’t flirt with anyone… not for a long time. What are you doing Alex… just go home. Her brain screamed at her, but she couldn’t resist finding out more about this woman. She felt drawn to her in a way that she couldn’t explain.
“I’m Lucy… Lucy Lane. And you are?”
The name sounded familiar somehow to Alex but she couldn’t quite place it.
“I’m Alex Danvers.” Alex said, holding out her hand.
The woman sputtered, having been in the process of taking a drink when Alex said her name. It took her a second to catch her breath.
“Um, Alex Danvers… The Alex Danvers. Well, well! I’m impressed and of course a little curious. I've heard great things about you.”
Alex frowned. “How do you know my name?”
Lucy chuckled. “Because I’m your new partner. Surprise. We were suppose to meet tomorrow. What are the odds that we would find ourselves in the same bar?”
Alex’s eyebrows rose to her hairline and she felt her heart race. Oh god… she just flirted with her partner. Her female partner at that! Shit!
Alex felt her fight or flight response kick in and she couldn’t help but run. It seemed to sink in for Lucy too about the same time that Alex’s feet hit the floor and she stood up. Alex only got a few feet out of the booth when a hand grabbed her arm.
“Hey! Wait!” Lucy said, but Alex shrugged her off and ran out towards the door. Lucy cursed and threw money down on the table and ran after her. “Shit! Alex wait!”
Damn she was fast, but Lucy caught the tail end visual of Alex’s jacket going down the alley and so Lucy trailed her. Eventually she caught up with her when the alley ended abruptly in a dead end.
“Shit, you move fast.” Lucy said catching her breath as she strode closer. “It’s okay. I won’t say anything to anyone. It’s obvious you aren’t out.”
Alex just blinked at her. “How. How did you know that?”
Lucy laughed and gestured at the alley around them. “Most out people don’t disappear into alleys when they get caught flirting with their co-workers. But you didn’t know I was a co-worker, so I think you get the benefit of the doubt. Not that it matters.”
Alex sighed and leaned against the wall. “How could I have fucked this up so bad already?”
Lucy moved closer and gently put an hand on her arm. “Hey, you didn’t fuck up if anything. Color me impressed, actually.”
Alex laughed bitterly. “Really?”
“Really. Now can we please go back inside or get out of here? This alley is giving me the creeps.”
Alex nodded. “Come on, my car is this way.” She started moving towards the alley’s entrance and Lucy followed. Once they were in Alex’s car, they both were quiet for a moment. Then they both spoke at once.
“So…”
“Well…”
They both laughed. Alex bit her lip and motioned for Lucy to go first.
“Well as far as partner intros go, this is the best one so far. Though I must say that I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t get to kiss you once before we found out about each other.”
Alex just stared at her. “You… kiss… me?” She blushed, her brain and her mouth just weren’t in sync, seemingly derailed by Lucy’s statement.
Lucy chuckled.
“Of course, I had been watching you for a while. It took me a bit to get up the nerve to talk to you because you seemed just very sexy, but also both very intimidating and yet also very shy. I was scared you would run off. Turns out I was right.”
Alex took a breath, the air seemed a little bit heavy now. Her eyes moved to Lucy’s lips, unable to stop herself from imagining those lips on hers. She shifted in her seat, feeling a little uncomfortable.
“I…” She couldn’t find the words to say. A little voice in the back of her mind reminded her that they weren’t partners yet, and what harm would a night of fun do to them. Another voice piped up after that reminding her that it was against the rules and it could potentially make their working relationship much harder no matter how it went, good or bad. Was it worth it?
Lucy leaned a little closer, a wicked grin on her face. “But we aren’t partners yet, are we? Not until tomorrow. We could still…” It seems that they both were tempted.
Alex knew that she should be the bigger agent and put a stop to this, but for the first time in her adult life, she didn’t care about work, or working relationships. Lucy’s smile was just so bright and hot and Alex made her decision.
“Fuck it.” She whispered, almost to herself and leaned forward and kissed Lucy softly on the mouth.
