The truth of it is, the vast majority of people do not like dingoes. This is something I desperately hope will change, but the one minor comfort to this, is the differences in attitude to a person having a dingo in their guardianship. It’s been asked if there are similar issues as wolfdogs (and their misrepresentation) in the US, and while there are a surprising number of similarities in their care, people don’t call dogs dingoes here. There’s nothing cool about having a dingo, whether you are in a dingo-friendly state or not. This is probably a blessing, it would be horrific if dingoes were considered pets, and I’m grateful for the cultural repulsion of exotic pets, or keeping non-domesticated animals. Misinformation is rampant, though it is a reversal of labels, with dingoes often misrepresented as ‘feral dogs’, ‘wild dogs’ or ‘hybrids’ in academia, government/ state websites, but particularly on social media.
