I think we may have discovered a pretty major reason why we're not getting pregnant.
My husband has to take a calcium channel blocker (it's calledĀ "Diltiazem") for his heart. Shockingly, these drugs alter the spermĀ cell membrane so that they cannot fertilize an egg, despite beingĀ normal in every other way (so it doesn't even show up on a sperm analysis).

What's really fucked up is that he specifically asked his cardiologistĀ about the drugs he's on and fertility and they didn't say anythingĀ about it. I only found out about it when I stumbled across someoneĀ talking about it on a message board.Ā We're going to call our Dr's offices in the a.m., but it's prettyĀ disheartening information that weāre reading. He'd have toĀ stop taking the drug for 6+ weeks for it to potentially reverse this (which might not even work),Ā and I don't know that he can do that. This drug has really helped him. It's definitely not somethingĀ I'm going to ask him to do.
My husband is pretty depressed and shaken up about this (understandably). Of course, Iām not mad at him at all - honestly I'm having such a crappy week that I'm almost not evenĀ phased right now. The hits just keep on coming.
I'm actually seeing a lot of lawsuit references when I googleĀ it. Maybe we'll just get rich and travel the world instead of havingĀ kids?Ā -sigh-

Iām happy to report that Scotty passed his heart exam today with flying colors. His blood pressure is very stable, his heart rhythm is even and so is his pulse. His lungs are staying clear of fluid. His pulse was erratic when he was put in the hospital 2-1/2 wks ago. AND, he has gained back 1-1/4 lbs. of the 2 lbs he had lost. The vet said Iām doing an excellent job with his meds. I wasā¦
