Crying like a kangaroo - 04
The night of the raging koala
The night was dark. Dark as it is in a place where no electric light shine. I'm a man of never sleeping cities and I never saw something like that before. That darkness hurt my eyes.
- There! - screamed the 14 year old girl. I looked at the place she pointed and I saw many little shining red points near the ground. Dozens of evil eyes staring at us.
- It's impossibile! - said the granny. But she was a pragmatic old woman. She pointed her shotgun out to the wood and shot where the eyes were.
The eyes faded out, darkness returned clean, but in the air something remained, suspendend, trying to tell us to keep the guard high. After some time we heard steps on the first floor, above us.
- They're here - i whispered, reaching the stairs and trying to look upstairs. - Stay down.
The steps became louder and louder, but while we were all with the noses up a bunch of koalas threw themself through the windows, crashing them. Then, they jumped on us. I reached the one tried for me with a punch, sending it KO. One jumped on Candy, grabbing her hair, so i had to smash it too. Granny, using the shotgun as a club, put two of them to sleep.
- Koalas don't behave like this! - Said then - THere's something evil!Β
Koalas upstairs started getting down through the stairs. I shot to them, making them go back for a while. - We can't go on like this all the night!
- We have to! We're trapped!Β
In that moment a mystic sound came from the forest. The sound of a dijeridoo, playing a dijeridance. All the koalas stopped, listengin to it. Then, they escaped back to the forest, all of them, leaving us alone.
The sound of the dijeridoo stopped. We realize to be safe only when the sun rose, the next morning.Β
