Watching 999: What’s Your Emergency and seeing health professionals stating that they believe in Euthanasia, reading articles about those who are suffering with no hope of relief and hoping I have a choice if I’m ever in the position of sustained suffering I can’t help but wonder why Assisted Dying has not been legalised yet?! If my dog is suffering with no hope of reprieve I would take them to the vet to be “put out of their misery” but we can’t help our family members etc in the same caring, compassionate and dignified way?! After a ruling by the supreme court last Monday, judges will no longer need to be consulted when relatives and doctors agree life support treatment should end. This ruling was for a man who had an extensive brain injury, who’s life support was turned off without the family having to go to court. This could affect the care of thousands of people each year, who are in nursing homes and hospitals being kept alive by medical interventions. This recent ruling has caused the Right to Die debate to resurface, leaving many people across the UK discussing their opinions. The UK’s campaign, Dignity in Dying, asks MP’s to change the current ‘Broken Law’ and start allowing terminally ill people to control and choose when they die.

Hey there! The campaign that we have chosen is the Dignity in Dying campaign. It is a national campaign and membership organisation “campaigning for change” across the United Kingdom. Members of the campaign “believe everybody has the right to a good death. Including the option of assisted dying for terminally ill, mentally competent adults”.
